The U 43 of the Murtalbahn is a locomotive that has always belonged to the STLB. It ran on the Murtalbahn from the beginning Unzmarkt Mauterndorf, as the railway was called after it no longer ran through the k.k. State railways, but from the Styrian railways State railways was managed. The railway was later called the Gaueisenbahn for a while.

After the First World War, the locomotive had to be handed over to the Bosnian State Railways in 1914, but was returned to the Murtalbahn in 1918 back. After the war the machine was partly fired with wood or even peat (especially when going downhill).
